학과소개
토목공학은 인류의 집단생활이 시작된 이래, 실생활에 필수적인 기반시설의 조성과 함께 출발한 공학의 근원이 되는 학문이다. 토목공학은 사회 간접자본(Social Overhead Capital)을 공학적으로 다루는 학문으로서 교통시설(도로, 고속철도, 공항 등), 수환경시설(댐, 하천, 항만, 환경기초시설 등), 에너지 시설(플랜트, 원자력발전소 등)에 관하여 조사/계획/설계/시공/관리하는 종합적인 분야를 다루고 있다. 지하/해양/우주공간/극지개발과 같은 새로운 공간개발은 새로운 세기를 맞는 토목공학의 목표이다. 토목공학은 자연과 인간이 공존하는 한 영원할 것이다.
영남대학교 대학원 토목공학과는 구조공학 전공, 수자원․환경공학 전공, 토질․도로공학 전공으로 세분되어 있으며, 60년의 역사와 전통을 자랑하는 학과이다. 본 학과는 1950년에 설립된 청구대학 토목공학과를 전신으로, 이 후 1965년에 신설된 대구대학 건설공학과(토목공학전공)와 통합되어 오늘에 이르고 있다. 석·박사과정으로는 1961년 대학원 석사과정이 개설된 이래 1973년 영남대학교 대학원 토목공학과 박사과정의 신설인가로 2024년 3월 현재까지 공학석사 536명과 공학박사 96명(명예 공학박사 2명 포함)이 배출되어 현재 관련분야의 위치에서 중추적인 역할을 수행하고 있다. 학과시설 및 교수진은 전국최고의 수준으로 현재 9명의 교수가 다양한 전공분야에 대해 강의와 연구를 담당하고 있다.
Introduction
The Department of Civil Engineering at Yeungnam University is committed to educate graduate students with cutting-edge academics, practices, and interdisciplinary researches and services for our local and nation’s civil engineering industry. Yeungnam University is located near Daegu area, southeastern part of Korea, where three million populations with a vast construction market for urban infrastructures exist. The department has reached this day after being combined with newly established engineering and construction department of Daegu University (civil engineering major) by having the civil engineering department of Cheonggu University established in 1950 as the predecessor. The graduate program at Yeungnam University started in 1961 and civil engineering doctorate program was established in 1973. Until 2024, 536 engineering masters and 96 engineering doctors (including 2 honorary engineering doctors) have been discharged to currently play a pivotal role at the position of related fields. For the department facility and professor team, 9 professors are currently in charge of lectures and researches on various major areas with the best national standard./p>
